Fait à partir de mousse issue des gilets de sauvetage que l'on trouve en abondance ici, ces matelas permettent de diminuer un peu la pollution matérielle sur l'île. Les couvertures de survie et la bâche plastique entourant le matelas, bien que non issus de la récupération, permettent d'améliorer le caractère isolant et imperméable du matelas face à l'humidité. Face à l'urgence de la situation et à l'impératif de temps, nous n'avons pas pu coudre de bâche isolante, qui aurait par exemple pu être réalisée grâce au tissu des bateaux pneumatiques stockés sur l'île.
